That same year, she won the silver medal in the individual all-around at the National Games, and the gold medals in the floor exercise and vault.

Wu Guonian

  • Former Chinese national gymnastics team member

  • He has represented China in international competitions multiple times throughout his career.

  • He has won numerous gold medals in pommel horse, vault, floor exercise, and team championships.

  • In particular, his two original and highly difficult moves, named by the International Gymnastics Federation as the "Wu Guonian Big Climb" on the pommel horse and the "Wu Guonian Somersault" on the floor exercise, have become essential moves for top gymnasts around the world to compete for gold and silver medals at the Olympics.

  • Elected as a deputy to the Sixth National People's Congress in 1983

  • He became the coach of the Beijing gymnastics team in 1988. During his 10-year coaching career, the Beijing team won numerous national team and individual all-around championships and individual gold medals. In the following years, the Beijing team trained many Olympic champions and world champions.

  • Since 1998, Wu Guonian has been coaching in the United States, producing 26 U.S. national champions and training 7 athletes who have been selected for the U.S. National Junior Team 15 times. He also led the U.S. National Junior Team to win the Pan American Games men's team gymnastics championship.

  • Due to their outstanding gymnastics achievements, two of the team members were admitted to Stanford University with full scholarships, six were admitted to Berkeley with full scholarships, and five were admitted to the United States Air Force Academy.

  • Founded in 2016, the Wu Guonian International Classic Gymnastics Invitational Tournament is the only gymnastics competition in the United States named after a Chinese person. The Chinese national gymnastics team has participated in this event in the United States multiple times in the past few years.
